The President of Turkmenistan attended the official commissioning ceremony of a new dry cargo ship
On 8 May 2026, during a working visit to the Balkan region, esteemed President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in the ceremony to mark the commissioning of a new dry cargo ship “Gadamly”.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov warmly congratulated all participants upon the launch of the new dry cargo ship “Gadamly” at the Turkmenbashi International Seaport in the Balkan region.
The head of state emphasized that effective work continues aimed at further expansion of transit and international cargo transport in order to develop Turkmenistan’s transport and logistics system, as well as to improve the national maritime industry.
“Turkmenistan plays a key role in the development of transnational transport and transit corridors along the East-West and North-South routes. “In this regard, our country has developed a strong transport and logistics system, including new railway and highway routes, modern world-class airports, and the Turkmenbashi International Seaport,” the President emphasized.
During his speech, it was noted that the “Gadamly” ship, built at the Balkan Shipyard, is designed for the transportation of dry cargo. Its carrying capacity is 6,100 tons. Equipped with modern technology, the ship is capable of carrying 240 containers of 20 tons each. The shipbuilding project was successfully completed by Turkmen specialists in collaboration with their Korean partners.
The President also noted that this year, Turkmen specialists, together with their Korean partners, will commission another cargo ship, the “Menzil”, and expressed confidence that the commissioning of cargo ships in Turkmenistan will significantly expand the capabilities of the national commercial marine fleet.
The CEO of “Koryo Shipbuilding Industry Technology” from the Republic of Korea Choi Yong-wook gave a speech at the event. He congratulated all on the successful building of the dry cargo ship “Gadamly” which is the result of joint efforts, and presented the Balkan Shipyard with special international certificates for advanced engineering developments and high-quality installation work during the construction of the new ship.
Following the speeches by the foreign guests, the Chairman of the State Service of Maritime and River Transport of Turkmenistan reported to the head of state that the dry cargo ship “Gadamly” was fully prepared for functioning.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov got acquainted with the technical specifications of the dry cargo ship. Congratulating the captain of the vessel on the commissioning of the new ship, the head of state wished him success. The captain of the ship then asked the President of Turkmenistan to bless the commissioning of the dry cargo vessel “Gadamly”.
With the blessing of the head of state, the captain of the ship pressed a special button, activating the vessel’s main engine. According to the noble maritime tradition, the ship’s horn signaled.
To mark the commissioning of the new dry cargo ship “Gadamly”, a celebratory feast (sadaqah) was then offered.
