The 95th meeting of the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination of Central Asia
On October 7, 2026, the 95th meeting of the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination (ICWC) – consisting of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and the Republic of Uzbekistan was held in the National Tourist Zone “Avaza”. The meeting was organized by the Turkmen side and chaired by the Chairman of the State Committee for Water Management of Turkmenistan D.Genjiyev.
The members of the Commission participating in the meeting included the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan N. Nurzhigitov and the Minister of Water Management of Uzbekistan Sh.Khamraev. D. Abdurazokzoda participated on behalf of Tajikistan.
Also the representatives of the water management agencies of Central Asian countries were present at the meeting. That is the ICWC executive bodies – the Secretariat, River Basin Water Management Organization “Amudarya”, River Basin Water Management Organization “Syrdarya” and the ICWC Scientific-Information Center, as well as the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS).
The participants reviewed the results of water intake limits and reservoir operating regimes during the 2026 growing season in the Syr Darya and Amu Darya basins, as well as agreed on water allocation and projected operating regimes for the reservoir cascades during the 2026–2027 inter-growing season. They also discussed progress on tasks arising from the decisions of the summits of the heads of state of the IFAS founding member states, including the implementation of PBAM-4, the adoption of water-saving and digital technologies, adaptation to climate change, and the development of water diplomacy and scientific capacity.
